A Car Trip. May, 19 2011
After taking a trip to Cape May with my Dad, we drove back to Pennsville, first taking Buckshutem Road from Laurel Lake, then getting on Rt. 49 in Bridgeton. We drove past the house we used to live in on Shiloh Pike (Rt. 49). This video combines both footage from that drive and a few old photos mixed in.
Since the video is in Quicktime, the resolution is low, and it's hard to read the titles.
First part of the video is Buckshutem Rd., also known as (Cumberland) County Rd. 670., which passes by the Millville Wildlife Management Area, beneath a canopy of trees.
The abandon home is near Gouldtown, NJ, close to Bridgeton. It is from a photo I took in 2001. This town has an interesting history. Here's a link:

The next still is a picture of my Sister, Barbara, and I walking on a flooded Shiloh Pike near Barrett Run Road, when Barrett Run swelled after a rain storm. This was probably around 1974, or so.
Next is our old house on Shiloh Pike, also taken in the mid-70's. Next store to that is the building where my stepmother opened up a farm market named "Salty's Center", which comes from her maiden name, Saltarelli (not sure about the spelling on that). She was/is a second generation Italian-American. Her parents immigrated from Italy and lived in New Florence, PA. Her father worked in a coal mine. Her brother was killed in a mining accident and her father eventually succumbed to black lung disease.
We used to sell watermelons out of an old Coke cooler filled with ice and water. My Dad made a cresent-shaped sign painted with day-glo paint to look like a slice of watermelon, with the words "Ice Cold Watermelon!".
Next, we continue on Route 49, toward Quinton, New Jersey, in Salem County. The Battle of Quinton's Bridge occurred here.
Battle of Quinton's Bridge
Anyway, enough history. The music in the video is "dog shelter" by burial. Check out his stuff. And thanks to Tim Goodwillie for turning me unto it. At some point I'll do my own music score for this.
Next video will be of the South Jersey Shore! Stay tuned!
